Pleasing Search Engines

The search engines. Where would we be without them? They help us find information, we can trust them to come up with the best matches to our search criteria and we know the sites that rank the highest are the best ones to try. Why do we know this? Because this is what search engines do.
If you have a website the number one thing you want to do is have that site rank well with the big search engines. It will allow people to find you, it will lead to traffic and that of course can lead to sales. If your site is mired on page four or five of a search you'll be in trouble. Who goes to a different page in a search? Hardly no one, that's who.

So to please the search engines you need a site that is reliable and trustworthy. This means that the people who visit find it informative, they find it reliable and they can find it easily with their search. One of the big things is keyword density. Too little and no searches will match, too much and your site will be ranked poorly due to keyword stuffing. It's also a great idea to diversify your keywords to things related to your site. For instance if your site is about dogs, then the word dog is an obvious search word, but so are dog treats, dog beds, obedience classes, puppies, and the list goes on. This gives that searcher a lot more options to still find your site and makes it more informative, but still about dogs which is your main keyword.

Making your site user friendly is another step towards ranking well. If the site is well maintained, looks and feels good and is easy to navigate, people will return time after time and some may even tell their friends. If however your site is ugly, hard to understand and hard to navigate, that too will get around and you'll be sunk.

Having good content is another yes from search engines. You want informative articles that keep the reader interested without being boring and stuffed with irrelevant information. In short you want your writer to actually do some research and really know what they're writing about. Remember that spelling and grammar count. There's nothing worse than reading something and fixing the grammar and spelling as you go. It makes the writer look dumb and untrustworthy too.
